Like us, they apparently find the tomato irresistible but in our suburban garden finding them is becoming harder. You are such an inspiration and I love your enthusiasm for the Bee. The habitat you've created is amazing!!! Have a big garden in country Victoria and the bees are going crazy at present in a large Rosemary hedge I've planted. Just seem to have the one variety at the moment but from time to time we have the blue-banded come and visit. Fascinating.
Keep spreading the word
AnitaVue at Jindivickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08328205739088572904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6935755860899789954.post-91333147798391454162014-09-13T03:04:46.581-07:002014-09-13T03:04:46.581-07:00We are in the process of adding a perimeter of bee...We are in the process of adding a perimeter of bee and insect friendly plants to our allotment, I hope to fill it with native plants that will seed freely and be self sustaining. We added a pond surrounded with flowers a couple of years ago and now have regular visits from several breeding frogs all sorts of bees and insects even a damsel fly. Its a peaceful place for us to sit and have a cuppa while at the allotment, and even though my other half is not keen on bees (childhood trauma) he loves the pond area. I try not to use pesticides choosing to cover the crops and grow companion or sacrificial plants or use garlic spray, not always successful. The pond area was almost entirely filled with plants from the clearance tables of our local DIY and garden centre a great way to fill any area, buying the reduced plants that have past their best but will return next year, a good water and feed before planting is normally all they require and if not successful they haven't cost a fortune. I had to laugh when you spotted the leaf cutter bee going into your bee hotel, I get just as excited too! We are still in the process (started Spring 2013) to totally transform our garden into a wildlife haven, it's still work in progress but the amount of bees and butterflies we've had this year has been amazing. I too have a soft spot for bees and also dragonflies. We also have 2 hives of honey bees which are great fun to watch.. :o) Julie https://www.blogger.com/profile/15712709232628195386noreply@blogger.com
